Arrived in Malawi!

Last week Tuesday I left Canada and arrived in Malawi Wednesday afternoon. I was happy that the flights happened without incident and all of my suitcases arrived!

The drive home was a real taste of Malawi since the usual road we can take from the airport to Stephanos was not passable due to the heavy rains they experienced the week before. Therefore we had to take a detour which was also iffy in spots, but we made it!

This time it took me a long time to get over jet lag! It’s been a week now, but it is improving!
Already on Friday, I took a tour around town with another Dutch lady here. That was my opportunity to build my stock of groceries so I can cook for myself. Let me tell you, cooking for 1 is a whole different experience than cooking for 6 or 8!
The Stephanos compound feels like it did when I left, other than the kids I knew then have sure grown up now! The older ones still remember me which is wonderful. Already this past Saturday morning, 3 boys knocked on my door, “We want to chat with you” they said. We enjoyed a few games of UNO and then they were on their way.
Transition is never easy or painless. I don’t really know how to describe the past week in one sentence. I’m happy to be here! It’s been a long road. It’s also been overwhelming at times. Plus I really need to get used to living alone. That has been a bigger challenge than I had envisioned.
Welcome to Malawi! Nice stay
